Lansdowne Publishing focuses on packaging books
and book-related products for publishers, retailers and wholesalers
around the world.
Our illustrated non-fiction books target the overseas market
with the majority of our books needing to be suitable for
the U.S. market. Lansdowne does not at present publish titles
unless there is a co-edition partner.
Our new Australian list will focus on Australian interest
titles in all areas and will concentrate on black and white
books.

The emphasis for our internationally based list is on
generating our own book ideas and not on accepting unsolicited
manuscripts so it is rare for us to publish an unsolicited
manuscript for this list.
We will, however, accept non-fiction submissions and proposals
if they are suitable for the international market in the subject
areas of Cookery, New Age, Spirituality, Health "&" Lifestyle,
Home "&" Design, as well as Gardening, History "&"
Mythology, Pet Care, Gift Books, and Reference Books.
We are looking to publish Australian titles and in doing so
seek unsolicited manuscripts suitable for the Australian market.

Your submission should include the following:
a
synopsis and contents list
sample
text and copies of sample illustrations
some
details about yourself including a list of
previously published books or articles
copies
of previously published magazine articles (if applicable)
a
stamped, self-addressed envelope.
Send material to:

Enclose a stamped, self-addressed envelope or Postpak
for the return of your manuscript or proposal. We are unable
to return manuscripts without postage. Please do not send
original illustrations or artwork.
Although all possible care is taken with submissions, Lansdowne
Publishing bears no responsibility for the loss or damage
of unsolicited materials received. Please ensure you retain
a copy of your manuscript and all other materials you are
sending.

If your submission is not suitable for Lansdowne, we wish
you every success in finding a suitable publisher.
When you are submitting a proposal or manuscript, target the
right publisher for your work by checking bookshops and libraries
for similar books. Information about the publishing company
is usually found on the imprint/copyright page near the title
page. It is best to telephone the publishing company first
to find out to whom you should mail your submission and how
it should be presented. The best person for initial contact
is usually the Publisher’s Assistant.
Poetry and short stories usually appear in magazines, journals
and newspapers before they are published in book form, so
it is a good idea to submit work to them before approaching
a book publisher. To ascertain which are the best magazines
for your work, check the bookshops, newsagents and large libraries
comprehensive magazine collections.
There are a number of good books on the subject of getting
your work published and these are available through bookshops
and libraries. There are a number of organisations to help
writers. The Australian Society of Authors (02–9318 0877)
or the Australian Publishers Association (02–9281 9788) may
also be able to give you more advice. The Australian Publishers
Association has a publication for sale titled 'Directory of
Members' which lists Australian publishers and the subject
areas they publish.
There are also courses at University Continuing Education
programs, the WEA, or Writers’ Centres.
